Romantic Geographic Society R.G.S.

First of all, one should never mix Romantic Geographic Society R.G.S. to other organizations that are using the same shorthand. As an example: we don't have anything to do with Royal geographic society (rgs) nor with the tradition of imperialistic geography.

HISTORY

RGS was founded in 1994 after long lasting romantic and geographic activity & field work. It is a hypothetical - poetic construction and a working organization. RGS have organized expeditions, picnics and adventurous explorations. The quantity of the society's activities has changed through the times. The most visible activities have been exhibitions and lectures. The active workers of the organization have been the artists, passionate amateur researchers and writers Jussi Kivi and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen. Also the RGS member of honour, artist and passionate wanderer Tero Kontinen has been an active worker of the society (2001-05).

Since 2008 RGS have been in succesful collaboration with The School of Esoteric Geography (S.E.G.). This has been seen as a new rise of it's activities. Today RGS is principally part of an amorphous and great, free society of individual but active explorers and researchers. Lot of successful cooperation has been done - meetings, conferences and expeditions.

FUTURE

Despite the fact that romanticism is less interested in the future than in timelessness, i.e. here and now - we are working for a better world.
